Setting up your Xbox One for backward compatibility
To enjoy Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One, you’ll have to set up your console to handle backward compatibility first.
1. Check that your Xbox One is connected to the internet
An active internet connection is required to download the necessary data for the Xbox 360 games, even if you’re playing a physical disc.
2. Make sure your system is up to date
Your Xbox One needs to be running the latest version of its operating system. You can check for updates by going to Settings > System > Updates & Downloads.
3. Download the game
If you have the physical disc, simply insert it into your Xbox One. The console will automatically download the game from the Xbox network, provided it’s available for backward compatibility.
If you previously purchased games digitally, they will be available for download under the My Games and Apps section on your Xbox One.
Accessing the Xbox 360 games
Once you finish downloading those older Xbox games, you can access them in your My Games and Apps folder, listed under Games.
